    Default airbox

    hi all,
I read somewhere the other day that something can be removed from under the airfilter and this makes the car abit more speedy?

    Is this correct?
If so how do i go about doing it?

    Thanks

    Mark

    Not 100% correct

If you open the air filter housing, you will see in the bottom section a removeable section about 100mm x 50mm that covers the top of the intake from outside. Many of us remove this as while it remains in place you will see only one part of a normal filter gets dirty.... thus showing airflow is restricted.

No-one has any definitive prooof if there is any benefit (other than improved airflow) or any problems caused by removal of this section, but many diesel onwers seem to think a flat spot is improved.

    All down to personal choice.

its not rocket science to know if you have poor air flow then you loose power, de-restricting air flow does help a little in this case, i personally have a 1.9 cdti 150 sri and i did notice an improvement but that was because i also fitted a K&N flat pannel filter and de-restricted at same time

I also removed the trunk section and replaced the filter element with a K&N panel filter. To me the 3.2 seems less hesitant when pulling away (it will pull off in 2nd with low revs now without a problem) and it's still averaging in excess of 28mpg mixed.

I noticed a difference in my z18xe...car just feels more nippy. Even my mrs. noticed as a passenger. This is more than just placebo. I don't know if the car is any faster, in fact I very much doubt it is, but it just seems to respond quicker to the pedal. Before you had to get the ge ars perfect when pulling away at lights, now its much better. I disconnected battery when I did mine to reset computer, this makes ita bit rough at first.
