Default diesel fumes in cabin!! now sorted with increased range!!

Well over the last couple of weeks i've been getting the smell of diesel fumes in the cabin. I've crawled about under the car but couldn't find any leaks. When I bought the car I did find some VX parts packets in trhe boot for injector seals etc

So the other day i took the engine cover off to have a nosey. Anyways, as i'm looking the engine & noticed diesel around the front far right hand high pressure fuel pipe seal/union nut!!

I started the engine running after cleaning away the leaked diesel & watched it for a few seconds. didn't take long for more diesel to appear!!

soooooo, i shut off the engine after noticing that the union nut was in a slightly different position to the 2 next to it i got out a 17mm spanner & give it a little tighten or 2. Again i cleaned away the diesel & started the engine.

This time i stood there for about 1 minute, revved the engine a couple of times & hey presto no more leaking diesel.

Before this my range left in tank was 221 miles with 43mpg average. I did a 20 mile round trip that night to work & when i got home my range was 243 miles!! Then i went to work last night, another 20 mile round trip & now my range is 251 miles!!

Must've been leaking quite a bit while running. There's still a bit of a diesel smell in the cabin but nowhere near as much as before. The engine itself around the where it was leaking does pong a lot so i could do with getting some engine cleaner on the job & giving it a bit of a scrub!!

Anyways, importantly the diesel is now all going where it's meant to do, in the engine!!

Here you go! it's the metal pipe & union note right in the middle of the pic. To tighten it up with a 17mm spanner i had to push it underneath the black plastic pipe & the wiring loom through to the nut. It only needed a couple of little turns to nip it up!!

Oh & the pic was taken from directly over the top of the engine cos if you just look from the front it wasn't easy to make out the nut that needed tightening

no probs!! the only tools i need was a T25 torx socket, ratchet & a 17mm spanner!!

The smell is almost gone. At the weekend though i'm still gonna clean the engine with some degreaser to try get rid of any diesel that's hanging around the engine bay
