    Default park pilot

just bought a vectra c 1.8 exclusiv 06 plate, only had it a week but it`s 1st car i had with parking sensors.should there be a symbol on the dash to say it`s operating, cos there is nothing on dash.when i select reverse,it makes one sound, but nothing at all when getting closer to anything, have got 3 months warranty with the car,but dealer said when i bought it,i would have to pay to get it plugged in to find any faults, then they would be paid for under warranty, hope someone can understand this, thanks.

If its a genuine product the bottom left switch with a P on it, next to the HU will light when the system is energised, there is no symbol on the speedo or radio display's.

BTW if it is a factory park pilot and its clearly not working its faulty, dealer is yanking your chain. Was it a VX dealer or a second hand car dealer?

Have a look at the sensors, the genuine Park Pilot sensors are recessed/flush with the bumper as they are mounted on 'brackets' behind the bumper, if they protrude then they aren't geniune.
There should be a tell tale on the dash BUT you should only see this if there is a problem with the system, not one you want to see really.
As Paul said above, just above the heater controls, left hand side of the head unit, there should be a button that looks like a P with a few radio waves coming off of it, if this isn't there then they aren't factory fitted.
Take a picture of the front/back bumpers, we should be able to tell from that.

There are two types of park pilot and neither have to be fitted with the button.

On the factory fitted park pilot the sensors are recessed but on the retro fit park pilot the sensor holders do sit out slightly. If there is a fault with PP it should show on the dash as a P symbol either on the instruments or in the window under the rev counter (pre-face cars only)

TBH it doesn't sound like a factory fit pp kit. Where does the beeb come from?

i have a switch which i can turn it off, which is handy when the recessed sensors are full of water, the front and rear sensors make a different pitch sound and when i get closer the beeps get closer together until i get a continues sound.
