    Default Top Grille blanked off?

I've noticed that during some recent "spirited" driving the engine temperature was significantly increased!

Looking for a potential issue I noticed that the grille between the headlights is actually blanked off?

    Is this normal??

What about the engine air intake that is behind the plate??

Ive looked at other motors in passing and some are and some are not.

Anyone have a view on this, should I remove it?

    Any pics???

I do know that behind the standard vectra cheese-grater grille is an aerofoil section that directs air not blocks it so am keen to see what you are seeing before I offer an opinion

Err.... Your intake pipe should be situated mid way between the top and bottom of that grille, and NO it should never be blanked off.

I'm not sure if i've understood your post correctly, could you supply a picture?

Don't worry mine is totally blanked off. Definately not a duct or anything. And yes the intake is behind it lol....

I think its the small 1.8's that are blanked, as the radiator is the same as others but obviously it is smaller to cool.

On the XER engine there is an intergrated oil-water cooler anyway and the undertray is not fitted due to oil temperature being the issue, not water temp....

    I have a 150 CDTi?

I will get a photo soon.

The best way to describe it is a box! Fitted over the grille on the inside.

The air con and water rads all extend up to the top slam panel behind this restriction.

The air intake is situated so high, and with an airbox to stop water getting into the engine. I can't understand why there would be a blanking of it... Overheating an engine is basically as bad as filling the cylinders with water.

Mine is same top half of grill blanked off I have also drilleed holes in top plastic under lip of bonnet To get fresh air into the Intake pipe

But I wonder if we could cut open the blanking plates to allow full airflow into engine bay and over radiators and intercooler

The plate is there on Diesels to help stop Hydraulic Lock, its not fitted to petrol's. You dont get a "Ram" affect from the intake anyway so no point removing it really, although the choice is totally yours, however I have seen Diesels up close that have taken in water from large puddles/splashes that have been written off because they need new engines.
