Default hi all, just a quick question

    hi all,

new to the site, and looks a great site and lot of info

just got a 2003 signum elegance, and very happy with it, just a couple of things niggling me:-

the fan blower dial only seems work on number 4 setting not 1,2,3?

and also rear wiper doesnt seem be working?

anything i sould check fr, as dont want start swapping fuses yet if anything might be untowards?

    cheers for any poss advice

    paul

An old favourite. most likely the thermal fuse has blown - commonly caused by a blocked scuttle drain allowing rainwater buildup, which then leaks through the pollen filter and into the car interior.

The fuse costs about £20-30 from the Vx stealers or if you fancy, you can replace the resistor on the blown fuse for less than £1 (soldering required).

Assuming you've caught it quick enough, fitting a new/repaired thermal fuse should fix the problem. Not changed one myself, but I am told you can get to it in the passenger footwell, right up in the front right corner.

The rear wiper fuse is in the rear fusebox and is fuse 14 - in the twin column of fuses, left column, 4th from bottom.

thanks handyandy and graham for the quick replis, just nipped out to car and the carpet is wet under the mat, so looks like what said and the drain is blocked? yet looking at the scuttle drain doesnt look blocked, and sorry if a daft question, on the signum isnt the pollen filter on drivers side? so why water on passenger side?

got a day off work tomorrow so looks like ill be investigating bit more,

any reason as to why rear wiper may have blown?

    cheers

Far as I am aware the front of the Signum is the same as the Vectra, thus the pollen filter/cabin air intake are to the front of the passenger, hidden under the liftable section of the scuttle.
The soggy passenger footwell does kind of confirm the diagnosis.

    Course of action:

    Unblock scuttle drain.

    Replace pollen filter asap.

    Repair/replace thermal fuse.

Begin the long carpet drying out process.

As to why the rear wiper fuse MAY have blown - I think the Signum boys and girls might be better placed to answer that - I don't know of known problems/common faults with the Signum, sorry.

    hi paulb70

this is a very useful site and there are a lot of helpful people on here
    hope you enjoy.

i had the same problem as you 1 2 3 did not work
only heater setting 4 would work

you need a resistor pack they are around 30 pounds at vauxhall

but i have the part number if you want it

you could go down the route of the maplins fix but do not solder it on

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-VECTR...28047287684754

you will need to take the glovebox out and its a the bottom where you need to put the new resistor pack

    hope this helps

take a look at this as well

    keep us posted paulb 70

FYI... my rear wiper wouldn't work and it turned out to be be a simple relay. Worth checking if the fuse is OK.

My blower not working on 1-3 also turned out to be a relay - not the resistor problem. Likely that yours is the resistor pack though.
