Ben, Does it rattle or is the manifold gasket blowing? I think they still fit the ECOTEC to these cars. The four pot's that I've had experience of rattle when they hydraulic lifters in the engine stick or fail to pressurise. This makes them 'Clack'. Is this the sound you can hear? Is it from the top end of the engine do you think?Originally Posted by ben366
If it is Chuffing from the front of the engine then you may have a snapped manifold stud, Very common on four cylinder ECOTEC's.
OR... I may be barking completely up the wrong tree.. Someone will say![]()
took it to vaux today they had a look and tightend a few things up, and that seemed to make a differnce, i asked what things that they did to it, because it would be nice to pass it on but they like past me im only on reception,![]()
How much did they charge you for 'tightening' everything up? And how long did it take them?
It might take a while for him to answer as he hasn't been on the forum since August 2006 and this thread is over 3 YEARS OLD!!!
It's why we have the date on the top of each post![]()
t into the dealer today, and he said it might be the injectors, then got his mate to have a look, and said it was perfectly normal, and wait until the problem fully develops and then come back. What a tos#er.
If anyone else has a thought on this, would be grateful.

i know this is an old thread but i have had a sort of chuffing noise from my engine. (1.8 sxi ecotech o4 plate).checked it this morning and i was checking the manifold studs one of them dropped off as i just put the socket on. one just below the thermostat housing. my first words were ********. i think the noise is still there but it doesn't sound any worse. not really blowing.
i take it this is gonna be a ******* to get out and replace?
gsi3.2 can you help?![]()
