    Default major thermostat problem!

trying to take of a thermostat and replace with the new one as per the guide, but i cant take of the lower bolt as there is a metal cannister type thingy blocking the path of the bolt, there was a little screw thing on the cannister thingy which ive taken off but it wont budge, thus disallowing me access to the bottom bolt for the thermostat

    its a 1.9 cdti 8valve

here are some pics to show u what i mean

The EGR cooler itís a nightmare to get off i managed to take the pipe off that connects to the exhaust manifold and pry it away enough to get a spanner in to undo the bottom bolt. Good luck

how come the instructions in the faq dont state the egr intercooler?? is this a car specific thing?

which pipe was it, can you describe it further, or any pics or something? this is doing my head in big time, theres so many wires and pipes leading all over the place,

i didnt want to start having to take of any exhaust parts etc. as it doubles the workload

Think that 'How to' is for the 150 engine. I followed it for mine, seems a much easier stat change on that.

    Sorry I can't help.

the 8v is a pain to change the stat, because of this egr cooler. as far as i am aware it has to be removed or at least loosened to get the stat done. there are two bolts holding the cooler to the back of the block, these need to be taken out and the little circular clamps on each end of the egr cooler need to be taken off to allow the egr cooler to be pulled clear. Be careful not to lose the circular gaskets when you take off the circular clamps, as these cannot be bought from VX, and if not replaced, the exhaust gasses escape into the engine bay.

is there not only 1 bolt holding the cooler to the stat, then its just the 2 clamps on either side, but i may need to remove the egr (give this a clean as well) so il remove the pipes from that side, and leave the ones on the exhaust end as thats a mission,

    what you think?
