    Default EGR Mod failed

On the Z19DTH engine, I was getting the typical EGR fault symptoms of no power below 2000rpm. Strangely, this only occurrs on warm days once the engine is thoroughly warmed up, and there were no fault codes.

Anyway, I dismantled and cleaned the EGR valve in accordance with the howto, and fitted a blanking plate with a 6mm hole as several others here have done.

Whilst I was at it, I cleaned the throttle body and the channels in the the intake manifold. I also verified correct operation of the swirl valves.

The fault still persists and this morning the spanner light came on. Diagnosis with the opcom shows 'EGR insufficient flow'. So the 6mm hole trick didn't work for me, so I'll be removing that mod :-(

It has only been 2 years and 26k miles since the EGR valve and manifold had been replaced (at the stealers by the previous owner!). Surely the EGR valve can't be knackered already? The solenoid part was spotless and everything else seemed to move freely and seal properly when closed. Is there anything else that could cause this symptom?

Just a thought have you checked the vacuum/boost pipes for leaks?

It sounds like a vacuum pipe issue. They are easy to get to. Here is a thread about it.

You can buy silicone replacement pipes off ebay.

I thought the hole had to be 8.5mm to stop the spanner light coming on?!

Not sure where i saw it though!

yeah think i've seen some posts where people had to enlarge the hole to stop the spanner light coming on. just try 0.5mm wider each time until the spanner light no longer comes on.
