    Default Diesel Service intervals

My car, '05 1.9 CDTi 120, has now covered 21000 miles.

Looking at the service indicator I see thats its the flex service and shows 26000 miles underneath.

Does this mean at 26k miles or in 26k miles time it reckons it will need a service.

'Cos 47k miles is a lot for its first proper service!!!!!!

    Is this a record????

I will check the oil level every couple of weeks so hopefully no problems there.

It shows miles remaining at current driving style until the next service MUST be done, however you shouldn't go over 30k or 2 years without a service. If you value the life of your engine I'd at least change oil and filters every 10k. 30k is way too long for any engine to run on the same oil IMO.

How long you had the car? If not long, it sounds like the dealer has reset the service counter - that would explain why you've only 'used' up 4,000 miles of the current service interval.

That indicated that they did a service on it when you bought the car - or at the very least an oil and filter change. Might be worth double-checking with them exactly what they did. You certainly don't want to be running the same oil and filter for 45,000 odd miles!

Well Its a Network Q car so it should have been checked when I bought it.
Whether they did a oil change I'll have to find out.

I have done about 5000 miles in it since I bought it a few months ago. So it doesn't quite fit in.

I managed to stall the car a few weeks back, (not enough revs to move off, was in petrol mode at the time) and since then I think the service interval has changed, can't be certain. Also, the other day the Spanner symbol appeared on the dash when I was driving and disappeared 10 secs later!! Which was strange.

I change my oil every 10k just as a precaution. Oil & filter change is only £45 at my stealers so why not do it?

Likewise. I have no idea why the service interval is 10k longer for the diesels. The oil will be like black water after 30k.

That does make sense. When you reset it, it actually resets to 31,000 (or 21,000 on petrols) so less your 5,000 gives the 26,000 remaining.

You just need to check that they definitely changed the oil and filter when they did the Network Q etc.

I'd also go along with what others have said - 30,000 is a long time to be using the same oil. I'm on the EcoFlex servicing on my (petrol) car so that's 20,000 or two years maximum, but I'll do an interim oil and filter change between services and not reset the service interval, so that it's an extra change on top of the one done at servicing.

Me too - it' goes in next Monday as it happens
Somehow, I don't like the thought of that mucky goo running in my car much longer!

I wonder why diesels have longer oil change intervals - the oil looks like creosote in no time!

My petrol intervals are 20k or 12 months which every come first. The service light came on this time about 3 days after the 12 months was up at 18k miles.

This is hard to believe but I tried to book mine in for an interim oil change at 10k miles and they refused to do it !! the dealer said there was no need and it wasn't worth wasting my money

Eh? Don't they want your money then?!

You can always do one yourself!
