Default Access to windscreen wiper linkage

How do I remove the black grill between the bonnet and the windscreen, to gain access to the windscreen wiper linkage?

Thanks for your replies, I'll give it a try. I'm hoping to sort out the wiper linkage mechanism after my passenger side wiper stopped working. From what I've read on here it sounds like this fault is a well known design feature!!!

I removed mine three times recently & posted in another thread, when I had problems with the wiper functions & finally changing the wiper motor...& yes it is difficult...but I didn't damage anything - deflector or windscreen by cracking it etc....

I started @ the passenger side windscreen pillar..easing up the corner CAREFULLY & GENTLY then inserting a spare broad wooden spatula (Nothing metallic) that my wife used with a frying pan...& working CAREFULLY & GENTLY easing the deflector away from the windscreen & trying not to use the windscreen as the fulcrum point..across to the drivers side windscreen pillar.

I also found I needed a windscreen wiper arm puller tool....as the arms would not budge off their splines....

Clipping it back is much easier but again you need to be gentle & careful, making sure the ' lip strip' on the back of the deflector locates correctly in the narrow recess running along the bottom of the windscreen...pushing it firmly into the recess when it is positioned correctly....

    Hope it helps...

    Cheers

It's interesting how my Vectra had a new wiper linkage fitted the day before I picked it up, and strangely had a cracked windscreen close to the passenger side wiper shaft that wasn't there before they removed the plastic cover.
I suspect that they levered against the glass a bit too much...

Still, new windscreen fitted now, at the garage's expense

Once you start looking for spares, you realise it's a design fault on many cars.
