Has anyone ever run their car down to 0 miles on the BC?

I got into a situation at work at the weekend where the nearest 24hr petrol station was 45 miles away! it was 1am so really i had no option but to stick it in 6th and cruise at 50 and see how far i got. 15 miles on the 0 miles BC suggestion. I know it's not good for the car to run it on such a low amount of fuel and the consequences could have been disastrous it it had run dry but has anyone else suffered similar?

When I test drove my Signum, it had Range 0 Miles on the display.

The salesman got a can of fuel and emptied into the tank, it still said 0 miles.

TBH the info on the display is only a guide anyway.

Filled up just by home (Range said 270miles <-Yeah right)
I drove to Watford via my Dads, a total of 144miles.
    Range now said 320.

I take what it says with a pinch of salt.

yeah been past 0 - but even when I fill up from 50 mile range I can only get just short of 50 litres in - which means I have 11 left! - At 54 average per gallon I still have well over 100 miles left

There's an old episode of Top Gear where Clarkson drives an Audi A8 I think from London to Edinburgh and back on one tank. The trip computer was saying '0 miles' and Clarkson still drove about 70 odd miles. Interesting, although it wasnt a vectra....

Never had the courage to try it personally, I was coming up the road from Lancashire and was aiming to get to the Shell Garage just North of Jct 44 but as I approached Southwaite range was showing 9 miles so chickened out and went in even though the gauge was still only just on the red, the hassle if I had got it wrong wasn't worth the risk,,,

Not necessarily. Can't remember figures, but i filled up with the petrol light flashing and was surprised on how much was still in the tank.

He also drove a Jag, to Blackpool from France(?), and that got down to "0" on the range but when the AA checked the levels, they said it had a 100 mile range left

They will be designed to under read the amount of miles left as a fail safe,
Espcially for a desiel as you can damage the system letting it run dry. as there are plenty of stupid people out there who love to play fuel light bingo.

that did,nt work was told about another garage in peterbourgh went there that was closed as well . now starting to panic as gf was giving me the i told you so look
back to A1 southbound made it huntingdomn svcs fully expecting the same result but at least there s a travelodge pulled in to travelodge and noticed lights on in garage . result
