Default How much oil are you using?

I'm not sure about you guys, but my insignia 2.0 turbo (petrol) seems to be using alot of oil. I'm having to put around 1 litre every two-three months. Is this normal, I know turbo'd cars use more oil but thought the was a little excessive I only do around 500 miles a month. The insignia uses nearly as much oil as my old RX 8 turbo lol

Cars shouldnt use oil... The wankel engines use it as they self lubricate with the engine oil or something and some gets through the seals into the compression chamber and gets burnt off..

A normal engine shouldn't lose any oil or coolant although some people think it should. I would check for a leak mate Or seeing as its under warranty take it into VX

Cheers for the advise, it's not a problem to keep topping her up, just thought it was a little strange using so much.

It is a problem topping her up as its a sign of a problem. Shouldn't be happening mate so I would go and get it checked out You may even have a faulty turbo... and you would be sooooo annoyed if it failed later on and they said it was wear & tear

No they shouldn't lose oil. The dealership will tell you that it is 'normal for a car to use 1 litre every 1000 miles'.... but just start sneezing and advise you are allergic to B*****IT - Certainly not a new Insignia anyhow!

    RTFM.

It's acceptable for a Vauxhall engine to use 1 litre per 1000 miles.

That aside, my previous 2.2 petrol (53 reg, with 36,000 miles on it) used approx a litre every 2,000 to 2,500 miles.

My current Vectra, again a 2.2 petrol (06 reg, with 60,000 miles currently on it) doesn't use a drop in 10,000 miles.

In short, some engines use oil, others don't, and some will use more than another.
