    Default gsi performance?

Ok starting to look at the gsi (02 reg most probably) as a replacement for my vectra b 2.5 sri.
Now i am just a bit concerned about performance! not top speed but how good is at accelarating. I have managed to get hold of an old autocar mag which had them racing the vectra gsi against the mondeo st around the track. Now they rated the mondeo higher, but one thing that stood out is the 0-60 of the veccy, they put around 8.0s not 7.0 that i have seen elsewhere.
Has anyone ever done timed their gsi 0-60?

*lol* Ask Big Phil how it performs against a Mondeo ...

The 3.2gsi is a beast, I wouldn`t think you would be dissapointed, best bet is to go test drive one ...

    A Swedish mag did 0-100km/h in 7.5s with a auto 3.2 V6. ( If i remember it correct )
( And a man would be quicker )
    So 8s 0-60mph seems a bit high !!

    Edit: 0 - 100km/h: 7.63 with a auto 3.2 V6

I know but the old vectra b gsi which had 192bhp iirc did it in about 7.6 i think but is a bit lighter than the C and that has 208bhp so i am just wondering which is it nearer to.
How DID Big Phil get on with a mondeo then??

The GSi is more of a big GT than an out and out racer if you know what I mean. Just as the Vec-B GSi was before it.

Don't get me wrong, they're very quick but in standard form their handling is short of the Mondeo although performance is about the same. Its not a track car and won't trouble the likes of Audi S3s, SEAT Leon Cupra R or tuned Golf GTI Ts in handling or performance but in my opinion thats not what you buy a Vec GSi for.

Its a very quick and very refined Grand Tourer rather than a hair on fire sports car. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised coming from a Vec-B though, I had a 2.0 SRi and the Vec-C is just in a totally different league.

the first thing u will find is its a big car and a heavy car, to compare it against the mondeo is unfair the mondeo is a smaller lighter car 170Kgs less i think.
the Gsi is a motoway eater and on the bends can be a hand full but lots of fun 105mph in third also its a very smooth car when accellerating.

    Hello m8.

    I went from a 2.0SRi 140 to a 2.6 GSi and I'm now on my 3.2 V6 GSi.

There is a noticeable improvement going from the 2.6 to the 3.2 in all gears.

As stated already, it's more of a Grand Tourer than a hot hatch!!!!

That said - the 0-60mph definately feels quicker than the 2.6 GSi's and I would say the 8.0 secs test you read was inaccurate or the numpty driver got it all wrong and let the traction control knock off the vital second! - TC can be switched off!!!!

    Hi m8,

I've just got my GSI but the car I had b4 it was an Astra Coupe 2.2
    tuned to 172 bhp.

It hit 60mph in 7.62 (standard is 8.2) and run on till 142mph (on track not road)

The GSI 3.2 is quicker throughout the rev range (v noticeable)
If you have a look on you tube video site there is a clip of a Vectra C GSI
vs a Vectra ST200, in the straights the Veccie C pulls away rapidly then gets caught in the corners (don't know whether thats the Driver or cars ability thats at fault though).

p.s if you get one you probably won't bother with the performance, the comfort factor of the veccie c is brill, whatever trim level you go for.

    hope this helps.

I have to agree with you Ross DTi 2.2,

I wanted something that was comfortable (had plenty of grunt) and good handling (not rock hard, and able to tell if its heads or tales if you drive over a coin). I'm happy with the 17" wheels as I prefer the overall ride, obviously there is a bit of a trade-off against better grip with bigger wheels.

I'm just back from a 900 mile round trip to Norwich over the weekend. No aches or pains and great fun on the motorways and minor roads (taking note of the safety camera info the TomTom was shouting). If you are looking for a pocket rocket the GSi is probably not the best choice but if you want a great all round mile muncher (and a strong platform for moding) I would definitely recommend it.

Stick a Vectra 2.0 T F40 6-Speed or the 2.2 gearbox in the 3.2 GSi then see how it accelerates
