    Default Petrol in a Diesel

Not a vectra question, but I trust you guys.

My friend has recently put Petrol in his Diesel x-type Jag and was wondering if we filled the rest of the tank with diesel.... (He put about 9 Litre's in the tank) would it be ok...

The AA want to charge £180 to sort it out WITH road assistance cover.
which I believe is a wee bit steep!

i would at least empty the fuel tank of all fuel and he might have a chance also depends on how far he drove it after fuel mistake

If you fill it up to the top you should be ok. It is best practice to drain it, and if been ran, then flush the fuel lines and change the filter, but if its not been run then just fill up with diesel. It may be smoky for a while. Keep the tank topped up too, ie when it gets down to 3/4 full, top up to full again. do this about 4 times and it will be fine.

Petrol will dilute well in a ratio of about 6:1 with no long term damage to fuel pump and seals, but add some black Redex as well IMHO

This week we had a coach fill up with unleaded instead of diesel
The pump cutoff at 100 litres and it was only then that the driver noticed
The coach had to be towed away, it returned the following day to be completely filled up
How to waste £140 of petrol!

well i did the same last week in my vec, i already had half a tank but thought id top it up, then like a T%*T I put £6.53 worth of petrol in it before i realised i was in my own car not my works car so stopped immediatly - paid for the petrol and then went back to neck it with diesel - shook it up a little round a few bends and its been ok since.

    9 litres
I wouldn't chance that much, May cause the engine to Knock....
I have found that petrol floats on top of diesel.
Be on the safe side. Expensive mistake otherwise.
