I was on the M42 this morning. I thought the artic in front was very close to an identical artic in front of him. When we over took, the front artic was towing the one behind with a chain. I thought it was illegal to tow on the motorway like that??.

I thought they needed to be either lifted off the ground by say the front wheels (with one of them large tow trucks) or a rigid tow bar. I said to my wife waht they are doing looks totaly illegal.
no you can tow of the motorway but not on to it same rules as a car
By the look of these Two lorries. I very much doubt that they were towed off... Well not before they were Towed "on" first.
Jeez I know fuel is expensive but thats ridiculous!!!!
Seriously however yes that is illegal no if's no but's.
Correct, as above
If it had broken down on the Motorway then it can be towed off the Motorway
It can be towed on to the Motorway (in that condition)
However many people towing extend this rule, and tow to their destination, not leaving at the next exit
Obviously we will never know "their" route. Nor action. But they were no trouble to the rest of the motorway traffic. Hopefully they got to their desination ok.
