Question not a vectra but help would be appreciated (ford ka)

my mate has got a ford ka and he has put about £45 of fuel in this week and only covered 120 miles and its saying the car is nearly empty, now i haven't looked at it yet but shall be looking at it on sunday, any ideas of what could be wrong? is it a case of it just not being that economical?

Hole in the tank, or driving like a loony. Even I get better than that.

What year ? Got to be a leak some where as they are only a 1.3, even a badly serviced engine should do better than that.

Iirc the Ka has a metal fuel filter in front of one of the rear wheels. They can rust through causing a leak. When was it last serviced?

My wife has a KA Sport 1.6 SE and it does a whole lot more than that to the gallon.
    Is the air filter clean.
How are the CO2 readings, the coolent tempreture sensor might be "duff".
Are the brakes binding. To suggest but a few ideas to look at.

I make £45 around 35 litres, nearly 8 gallons - 120 miles is terrible. I'd start with basics, check air filter for blockages, check under for leaks (with a blowlamp as it's a Ford). The other's suggestions, temperature, is engine getting warm, are brakes binding. Sounds like a fun filled day

yeah its going to be interesting to say the least, he only paid £500 for the car, and then last week the power steering pump set on fire which cost him nearly £300!! he did get abused at work for not just getting a better car but with being only 17 that's all he can afford insurance wise atm :/
