    Default 2.0t turbo/cat/exhaust manifold noise

Hi. Car running absolutely fine yesterday. On the drive to work this morning I norice the turbo whine is louder than normal, no noticeable performance difference.

On way home the turbo noise slightly louder and a bit more 'farty' from under the bonnet when under full load but very refined otherwise. The turbo is definately more audible more of the time now though. Maybe very slightly less powerful. Had a quick listen under the bonnet and it definately sounds like a crack/hole in the exhaust from the turbo area.

I've had a search on here and found threads suggesting the bolts on the cat coming loose and tbh I'm hoping that's all it is. I'm going to have a good look tomorrow up on ramps, any specific suggestions on where to look and what for?

    Thanks

Thanks. It was nagging me too much so I went out and took the turbo heat shield off for a look. In the picture you can see bolts in the centre, to the left of the sensor (sorry not too good with the technical names). There are only two and the top one was about to fall off. The third, as you can see, is totally missing so I'm assuming this is the problem. I tightened up the top one and it seems to have made a difference, perhaps the bottom one has been missing for a while. I hope this is it. Does anyone know the dimension of the bolts so I can go get one, or maybe the part numbers? Thanks again.

Brilliant cheers. I believe my local vx dealer might also be your local vx dealer, I recognise your car. Infact, I think you live just round the corner from me. v.nice car! Is there a technical name for the bolts that I can give to the parts advisor?

Hopefully that's it. Although I've just found one of my exhaust back box heat shields hanging off too. And they say bad things come in 3's......

The bolt you need is an M8, described as M8x38, so maybe that means it's 38mm in length. Part number 90490326, and they come as a pack of three.
