Default facelift vectras for less than 4k, bargain or hand grenade?

    hey guys,
been looking on autotrader for facelift vectras and there seems to be a lot on there for less than £4k, some even close to £3k. There are also one or two 'sri' vectras for £3,700ish . I was hoping to spend £3,500ish because of currency exchange and import duties to ireland.

Ok, so there all high milege, round the 100,000 mark or even well above but a lot of them say 'full service history' which sounds promising. im just wondering what the thread title suggests, would you guys thnk these are worth thinking about or should I forget about them becuse they will break my heart and rob me blind???

Also, is the sri much harder/stiffer than the other models with the standard suspension because I dont want to spend a ball of money on something thats going to break my back?? The sri looks much better because its lower and I thnk it comes with a body-kit of sorts so im leaning in that direction but it im thinking I might regret it.

    Any thoughts????

All depends on what fuel type it is, I too have been looking at new vecs and it seems that petrol is cheaper than diesel, its the old supply and demand sketch (Everyone want a diesel). The mileage will also effect it as you have said. If its a derv and it has had all the common faults done and has been fully serviced then I would suggest it will be fine for another 200k.

As for the SRi, not sure about the suspension, but it has a sportier looking front and rear bumper, 17" alloys. Not lower than the others, but the wheels will make it look lower.

I have an SRi and I can say the ride is real smooth and a pleasure to drive. Any reason you want a facelift over a preface?

I believe the SRI's have slightly lower suspension. I have a pre-facelift and the suspension is not that harsh running on 17" wheels. Quite a comfy car really.

Echo the above really. I just put Bilsteins on mine and it has improved the ride, but not too harshly!

Incedently, my 05 SRI CDTi was LESS than £3k! BUT it needed new shocks and later found out the swirl bar was broken!!

Worth checking the Swirl bar/inlet manifold before you buy! VX wanted over £1k to put right!!!!

SRI - lowered and stiffened suspension, I prefer this over the standard suspension
There are some basic trim differences, but that is it

At 100K miles and under 4 years old the OE warranty has expired, hence the low price (as a third party warranty cannot be applied)

Just look for the usual "wear and tear" items

i bought my 55 reg facelift vec sri cdti 150, lightining silver, original with 98k and fsh, immacualte condition for 2800 knowing that it needed the inlet manifold replacing (well it wasnt affecting running but the rod was broken) so i spent £500 replacing the inlet manifold, the cambelt kit and had a new waterpump put on whilst in bits, very happy with the car (used to have a pre face) and it only cost me £3300 in total, there are plenty of decent vecs out there for under 4k as long as you check for the common problems, there isnt a certain mileage things go wrong with these cars

paid £4500 for a 06 plate elite 18 months ago 1 owner with FVSH although it did come with 100k miles on the clock. now over 160k and never gave me any real trouble other than wear and tear items.

    clutch at 140k miles
and what looks like a new inlet today at 158k miles

Sorry, it was a 1.9 cdti 120 I was looking at

From what I have been reading and looking through the brochures at https://www.vauxhallproductforum.co....pid=11&cid=312 , the sri definitely comes with a lower suspension which looks way better than the other models I think and especially as I would be looking to fit 17's to it, unlike a lot of people who are running 18's and even 19's which look great under the other models. The bodykit also looks good on the sri.

I assume as long as their is a full service history I would be ok.

Does anyone have any experience with pre-purchase checks?? I know of a few companys that do them and as I am in ireland, a pre-purchase test would be essential to save me a wasted trip all the way to the uk to view a car which a dodgy seller would say is perfect when in fact it would be terrible ( im hoping that doesnt happen to me).

    Thanks for all the replies
