    Default New water pump?

    Afternoon all,

While having my thermostat changed a while ago, I was advised that I had a slight 'leak' from a seal on my water pump. I was told this may result in a little bit of water in the oil.

I left it as it was, but have recently noticed my oil getting a bit gunky, like it would be if the head had gone. I have had a chemical test done twice which said head was fine and I have had no real noticeable coolant loss or overheating.

Do I need a new water pump? If so, how much? 03 2.2 SRI Petrol.

    Thanks in advance!!

Im not to sure where the stat is on your car, I would be interested to know how he could tell you need a new pump as it is positioned behind the cam belt, which requires engine mounting brackets to be removed to see it. (Unless im wrong, maybe the stat is there).

ok, I have just read the haynes manual for the 2.2 thermo, and it is actually located close to the water pump, So I guess he could of seen that it needed replacing. How many miles does it have on the clock?

Mate, if it has never had the water pump done, I suggest you get it done. Cant remember what the schedule is for the cam chain on the 2.2. But it may be worth doing them together.

From VX, not sure on the price of a chain, but it is gonna be in region of £500 for both. Just the pump, probs a little less, however to do the pump they need to get the chain off, if I recall correctly, Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge of a 2.2 will pop up soon.
