    Default Ex Police Vectras

Long story short, my next car needs to be an estate (currently got a hatchback), and I maybe in the position to only need the car for tooling around at the weekends and for family holidays, so I'm thinking 3.2 V6!!!!

Anyway - autotrader has a few 3.2 Estates as ex-police cars, what's peoples general thoughts on these the mileages range from 110k - 146k.

Also, the radios are missing/replaced which isn't an issue as I have an after market unit anyway, but is there any other wiring missing from the police spec Vec's? All I'd want to do is return everything back to standard (apart from the stereo).

The wiring issue probably varies by police force and how they decomission their cars, but I've read reviews in magazines where on some ex-police cars the wiring was a complete and utter mess, due to the mechanics just cutting every wire in sight when they removed the police equipment.

Would disagree with the above, I had an ex-Police Omega estate, and its by far and away one of the best cars Ive ever owned.

Wiring wise the multi-plug for the radio had been cut, all that was required was a trip to the breakers for another plug and it re-joined. It was also missing the ariel cable, £15 for a new one and it was wired in. Most of the additional wiring that the car had (light bars etc), was still there but cut in several places, an hour or so had the majority of that removed.

Forget the wiring for a moment.

Police cars catch criminals so they drive them up the kerbs & over fields at speed and over pot holes at speed.

Do you want one thats been thrashed and re built several times or one that someone looked after it.?
Now inside there's holes and yes the wiring will be messy behind the dash.

The only police vehicle id have is the mercedes Sprinter to convert to a camper van.

ide buy an ex police car if the price was right, atleast you know what its been through you could buy a car that looks great but has been thrashed just as much if not worse and pay more and sometimes you even find they run better cos they get driven properly, i know of someone who had an ex police vrs and never had a major problem, decided to replace it with a lower mileage private one that turned out to be a right pig and cost him a bucket of money. you just have to rememeber when you have one what it has been through and budget for any problems
