confused Blanking EGR Valve Pros/Cons ???

Hi, My EGR valve is gubbed. I was looking at the blanking plate here, I know it fits on the bottom (as a gasket blocking the pipe) but what are the pros / cons of this and do i need a remap even if the EGR unit is still in place

    TIA

I boiught the plate a few weeks back and will be fitting it. here is my take on blanking:

    Cons:

    - Increased exhaust gas temperature which has the potential to affect turbocharger.
    - Increased NOx emissions

    Pros:

    - Increased engine response
    - Reduced smoke levels in theory
    - Reduced inlet manifold acidity levels
    - Cleaner manfiold - no soot to clog it and the swirl valves up.

Looking at doing this on the wife's CDTi too. I was also wondering if you left the EGR connected, will it need Tech2'ing out?

Yip regardless whether you have blanked it and left it plugged in or both or simply unplugged it, the spanner light will come on. The actual EGR firmware in the ECU needs to be remapped off as dealers don't have the necessary software for this.

So what if you get a remap that turns the EGR off? you still need to blank it?

true, might as well stick the blanking gasket in, going to get mine remapped soon, need to do some stuff first though, service etc. What you think about de-catting?
