    Default 1.9 cdti manifold advice

hi all, i'm new to this forum , but i wondered if someone could help with some advice please. I have a 55 plate 1.9 cdti vectra with the dreaded inlet manifold swirl valve failure. Dealer quoted me £960 to replace(robbers). So i searched and found this forum. I have found the "how to " posted on here and think i may have a go at doing the job myself. I have found on ebay a new replacement manifold and controller for just under £300 with gasket. My question is do i need to replace the controller when fitting a new manifold or if the old one still moves can i reuse that one.

    Hi spngebob,

did mine last year(thread on here somewhere) and i didnt bother changing the actuator. I just changed the manifold. I know VX say to do it but when i asked around on here i was told that as long as the battery is disconnected while you do the job when you reconnect everything the actuator starts with a blank memory so it doesnt need to be changed as long as its free to move(move the arm carefully when you check it as i think theres some gearing inside that may get damaged if you move it too fast.) ive now done 10,000 miles since i changed it and its given me no hassle at all.

hope this helps and good luck with the change(it looks worse that it is) i did mine on my drive with no jack and it was still not as bad as i thought it was going to be.

    cheers Spurty

Mine was done a month or so ago, the actuator wasn't changed either. The manifold was about £170 off ebay. You should notice a huge difference in power when it's done.

    hi spurty

thanks for your reply,i too will be attempting to do this on my drive. I checked with the engine running and the third valve does move when the engine is reved, but not very much. I wondered if it was worth changing the controller to avoid having to do it again later on. I've read the how to on this forum so hopefully i should be ok.

I thought my car was running fine, even though the swirl bar had been lying on it's side for over 30,000 miles, but I've owned it over 3 years and didn't notice the drop in power, as soon as it was done it was like the car had been mapped.

Dealer spotted mine when it went in for service, when i asked about it they said if i had no fault lights and good fuel economy just leave it. But fuel economy is poor so im gonna bite the bullet and have a go at it.

    Vehicle : vectra-c

As you've read through the 'how 2' you will have noticed I didn't change Bens actuator & never have changed one doing this job, The 3rd swirl wont seem to move that much 'at most' its about a 1/4 'IE from twelve to three on a clock', Its movement is limited Both ways on the underside of the manifold anyway so cant be altered, allow time for cleaning parts such as EGR, BOOST SENSOR & THROTTLE BODY good luck & if you get stuck you can pm.
