Doesn't this ruling mean it could also be 'ageist' to charge younger drivers more for insurance than older ones?! According to the stats, younger drivers are more likely to have an accident than older ones meaning increased premiums. If the statistics are what insurance companies use to come up with quotes then surely it puts most factors into doubt! Opening up a can of worms. As has been said previously, the whole motor industry in this country is a absolute mess.

Good point when you look at it like that, Not sure what the difference in price is for a 18 yr old with no claims and a 40 yr old with no claims. Would be interesting to do a compare the market on it.

Young drivers are not charged more or less than older drivers
The difference is in the NCB discount and excesses that apply
Most young drivers won't have 5 or more years NCB
Also it is not normally possible to protect NCB until 25 (so this might have to change)
Finally, older drivers tend to drive less miles hence why their premium will be less

You can confirm this by simply changing the age on a sample policy

However, any insurance can load their premium as they see fit
They give preference to one demographic over another
Shelias Wheels is a good example, where woman prefer to buy from this broker, but they also sell policies to men
Maybe it's the stigma attached with having such a policy?!?

    Not quite true...............

My grandfather who was 89 when he quit last year was paying £700.00 cheapest i could get for a A 160 cdi merc and did 2k a year.

I could insure it for £270.00 fully comp full ncb protected.

The older you are the more it becomes it seems there is a age cut off were it gets pricey etc.

And while im at it!!!!! When i got to 25 i was so hoping for the prices to come down like i told they would but the went up so never felt really like i got a fair deal back then.!!

Its due next month catching the train i think............:-( 40 this year and no cheaper.........

don't expect lower premiums though chaps. all this will mean to most people here is your household expenditure will increase because the missus' insurance is going to pretty much double in cost.

ALot of peeps dont really notice this - just rant and rave about women being cheaper. It will affect families quite badly

My belief is that women may not have so many accidents, but they do cause more...
