    Default Owner's opinions - signum 3.0 v6 diesel (manual) .

Would appreciate some feedback regarding -
    running costs
    road tax cost
    mpg
Also any known problems with this model ?
I'm looking to upgrade from the golf v5 as the mrs is expecting again , but I've had a really bad experience with a vectra 3.2 auto in the past , the gearbox went .
    Much appreciated .

Mine's been a dream mate. Now on 110k and still producing bang on manufacturers figures for power and torque. As a motorway cruiser it sits just under 2k rpm for as long as you want and will get 40 mpg while doing so. This drops a bit in urban driving but that's to be expected... :-)

    Got a budget in mind...?

I have an auto and that's returning around 35 mpg with slot of town driving at the moment but as penfild says it is a hr8 motorway cruiser, mpgimprove dramatically on long runs, so long ad you do t have a lead foot.

Not sure about the manauls but mine is a facelift model and the tax is a bit steep for a diesel £239 a year!

    I have a Signum 3.0 04 plate:

    Running costs:
30-35 mpg on my mixed drive to work
40mpg easily on a run, more if you stick to 65-70.
Servicing is a bit more than normal as it needs 7.5l oil and filters are ~£20

Mines been very reliable over the 45k I have owned it, only had to replace the aircon compressor and I refreshed the suspension as I had 2 broken springs and usual service items (rears pads and disks, the fronts are still ok and have 35% pad material left!)

Brakes are good, but the car is very heavy. I have uprated the suspension to eibachs/bilstein and the ride is better and handling is totally on a another level, it still understeers but at much higher speeds now.

I also have a tuning box on mine which transforms the engine as I think it feels a bit limp without it. Also sounds great too!

I have thought about replacing it but its worth b*gger all now and I cant think of anything thats going to be dramatically better. Im getting a 2nd fun car instead.....

Not a Signum, but a Vectra C hatchback (relatively similar)

    Running costs :
I calculate mine a per mile basis, from a spreadsheet of all receipts
In 122K miles £7027.83 or £0.06 per mile
This includes servicing, brakes, tyres, bulbs, oil, refused warranty claims, etc (I didn't pay for any servicing or brakes, as this was paid for under warranty, so have now adjusted a copy to include these costs)

Road Tax is currently £120 per 6 months / £235 per 12 months

MPG is currently displaying an average of 34.0
    I get between 30 and 50 miles per 7 litres / 240 and 400 miles per tank

The usual VX issues affect the electrics, body, etc
The engine is pretty bomb proof, but the original fuel pump on the older Y30DT may suffer blocked SCV (costing about £500 to fix)
The gearbox/clutch may exhibit unusual behaviour of being unable to select 1st or 2nd gear (costing about £500 to fix)
However, under warranty or Network Q cover these are covered

    Servicing
If the car is on EcoFlex, then you can view the miles to next service
With the key out of the ignition, press the odometer button (if this does not work the car is not on EcoFlex and is on standard servicing of 1 year / 20K miles)
The limit is 2 years / 30K miles
However using anything other than GM-LL oil will reduce this interval, as I have proven by the first two services using 10W40 (in error by the dealership)
The two most recent services used 5W30 GM-LL specification oil and the car reached the 30K miles service interval
However, we recommend the fuel filter is replaced EVERY 10K miles (it doesn't seem to last the 20K or 30K miles as per the service book)
Check what the garage plans to replace at the service, but should always include pollen filter, air filter, and fuel filter

The cambelt is due every 100K miles, no major issues which affect other VX engines (as this is not a VX engine)
However the valve clearances MUST be checked on completion (if the garage does not mention this, then do NOT use them) therefore ask what work is included as part of the cambelt change

Brakes and discs are relatively cheap
The rear pads are about £30, the front pads are about £70, the pad and disc kits are about £90
Fitting is about 1.0 hour on the front and 1.5 hours on the rear
Brake fluid changes are three years, then every two years (see servicing above)

Rear springs are a weak point, typically need replacing at four years
Before they fail they can often take a shock absorber with it
Check for ANY knocking noises from rear

Overall, it is not the best car I have driven, but the warranty is worth it's weight in gold hence why I have now bought loads of VX cars
If warranty was not an issue, then I would not own a VX, the Ford was a nicer drive

We had ours for 6 years, 7 months and traded it recently as we no longer need such a big car.
No major issues apart from broken springs.
At it's best and happiest on the motorway.

Love mine to bits. Just done a round trip to Cornwall and it really was a pleasure to drive. No back ache or anything like that, its just so comfy, my passengers said so too.

Just had 2 new tyres at £96 each. I still have 215/50/17 on mine, but I believe you can fit a different size which is cheaper, will leave that one to the experts.

Probably averaging around 35mpg, but that includes alot of local runs.

The weird thing is my 20 year old daughter just loves the look of it inside and out, but then she drives a Land Rover and/or a Clio so suppose there's no accounting for taste .

If you are paying that price and they are like for like, I wouldn't bother swapping to 225/45R17
However, the 95W XL comes in at £150 and the 225/45R17 equivalent is typically £100
