If it's over 3 years old use Vauxhalls 10/40 Semi Syth oil.

5/30 is too thin for older engines.

Did you observe the MoT being carried out?
What was the tester doing checking the oil level?

Please explain why 5w30 is to thin for older engines, my 7 year old vec 1.8 0n 78,000 seems to run smooth as silk on 5w30 dexos2, I sold my first vec 1.6 on 178,000 miles and that was run for most of its life on mobil 0w30. never had an engine problem.

    Because of engine wear.

If an engine is run from new with top quality oil and changed often the wear will be minimal, But trouble starts when services get missed or extended then a new owner gets it and tries to look after it to find it burning oil on the thinner 0w30.

So as recomended to use thicker oil like 15-40 semi synth, Don't take my word for it ask vauxhall as they do it anyway on higher mileage motors.

15-40 when hot will be like 10-40 as it cools it gets thicker just like bisto gravey. :-)
