    Default vectra c

    hello.

i am new to the vectra market and im looking at buying one. i am looking at the vectra c on an 08/58 plate with the 1.8 vvt engine. i was wondering if any one could tell me the service plans ie cambelts and how often etc and if there are any known common problems that i should look for when buying.

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks

From what I hear they are very reliable as long as you look after it, I think the book says 60,000 for cambelt and water pump, but 40,000 is recommended.

I may be wrong but I'm sure I've read that it's 100k or 10 years for the 1.8VVT.

This thread got me a little worried as I plan to keep my car until it's 7 years old by which time it will have approx 70k on it and thought I wouldn't have to bother changing the timing belt.
I've checked my handbook and it definitely says 100k or 10 years. Are people really changing their cambelts at 40k? Sounds a little extreme to me.

A couple of mates who work for Vauxhall advised me 4yrs or 40k for any belt regardless what Vauxhall says as they've seen too many engines wrecked by the belt snapping.

my vauxhall mechanic said the same thing i change my 1.8 petrol every 40000 miles

the n reg 2.0 gls vectra i had before. the cambelt snapped at 56000miles
the damage was it bent 4 valves
and the head needed skiming total cost repair 600 pounds and that was not a vauxhall garage.
this is why i change at 40000 miles now

Take out a warranty mate, as long as you service it, they will pay if the belt goes under what the book says. But that is £300 which is the same as a belt.
