Default Upgrade advice for a newbie...

    Hello to all forum members.

I have recently become the proud owner of a 2006 Vectra-C 1.8i Exclusive and so far I am very happy with it. It has been fitted with the CD30 and three line display and I was hoping for some upgrade advice, mainly to find out what my options are.

My initial thoughts were to stick with an OEM unit as I don't want to change the look of the console which I rather like. Is this possible and should I consult a Vauxhall main dealer or a specialist ICE shop?

Any thoughts gratefully received. I should also add that although I work in IT I am completely useless at fitting radios and other practical stuff (put me in front of a keyboard and I will take anyone on ) so I would need to pay someone to do the work.

    Many thanks

Changing the head units and the displays in the Vectras is very easy, I changed my CD30 for a CDC40 (6 disk changer) I didn't get a DAB box but one has come up at the right price so I will be fitting that too shortly, once the bracket has come over from Germany.
You could go for the CD70 sat nav, just depends on what you want.
I may take you up on the challange in front of a keyboard mate, I work in IT also.

Thanks for the reply Lee, I suppose it depends on what unit I can get my hands on. Do you need any special tools to remove the unit (I really am that useless when it comes to practical stuff!)?

What area of IT do you work in? I am a sysadmin for my sins

Go onto eBay and get some double din stereo removal pins:

Don't pay too much, I think I paid about £2 for mine. The plug on the rear of the head unit will be ISO or quadlock both are easy to remove (quadlock has a bar that lifts rather like a ZIF socket on a CPU.
I liked the 6 disk changer on the CDC40, I use TomTom for satnav (on my phone) due to the speed camera database that's on there.
Some people prefer the CD70 Nav head unit and colour screen, I would too if it would do the camera etc.
