fuel gauge not working signum

my fuel gauge shows just below half full it moves just over half to just below half, when i turn the ignition off it goes down to zero, it ran out of fuel the other day so theres not half a tank in ther, has anyone had this problem before, any help would be great thanks.

Could be the sender or more unlikely the gauge itself. What does the fuel computer say?

the comp sais around 220 but i think it has gone down to about 130.
