Default Anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced alternator for a Z20NET?

Looks like I need a new alternator. After a drive of about 10 miles on Friday the car wouldn't start again when I came to return home. Bit of a surprise as didn't think it could be the battery as it started fine that morning at 6am in the cold!

Got home, turned engine off and went to restart it straight away and didn't start. Thought battery may have had enough charge in it after the drive back. As it didn't, alternator looked like the possible suspect, although I thought the alternator light would've come up on the dash. Charged battery back up to full as it was down quite a bit, then did voltage tests on alternator and it's only putting out just above 12V when it should be putting out 13.7-14.8V at 2000rpm according to Vx specs, so therein lies the problem. As it happened, on a short trip this morning the alternator light decided to show it's face on the way back.

Soooo, rang Vx to see what the deal is with an exchange alternator. Costs £260 for the alternator, I'll get 10% off that so makes it £234. When the old alternator goes back I then get £45+VAT back (£54) making the overall total £180. Hadn't expected the alternator to be that price or to get so little back on the old one!

Anyway, if that's the price then so be it, but thought I may as well ask to see if anyone has seen one going for a better price? I tried Car Parts Connexion but they don't have any.

The part numbers are either 93190894 for the non-exchange version or R1530087 for the exchange version.

Sounds daft, but try Halfords, I got my exchange alternator for my old 2.2 from them for less than anyone else could do it for.

Just rang 'em. They don't keep one for mine themselves. She looked on computer for outside suppliers and all that came up was a 100A alternator (mine is 120A) for £166 taking into account the exchange bit - so no luck there as Vx are only a bit more and obviously a 100A one is no good.

    The hunt continues!.....

Ahh, sorry, I know when I did it they had to special order it in but they got it in same day and to be honest I was selling the car anyway at the time (alternator went AFTER I'd started advertising it), so didn't really care what the rating was just needed it as cheap as possible. I think that's about what I paid for the one I got for the z22se so it probably was the 100A.

Just a thought -if the battery light's not on, check the earth on the alternator -I've had this happen to me, and the alternator was fine but not earthed properly.

Are you meaning battery light on battery itself, or battery light on dash? If the latter then that popped on today as per my original post.
