Default Any electrictians in the house?

Guys quick question. Can you wire 3 400w floodlights into a single plug? I mean link each one to another and off the last on have the plug?

That's only 5 amps. It's not really the way to wire lighting, but if it's for a temporary use thing or something then it's certainly perfectly safe as long as you use the correct grade cable.

An example, your lights are 1200w between them. The average woman's hair dryer these days is 2000w

what type of flood light are they?

    halogen would be ok

but some types of floodlights draw a larger ampage to ignite.

Even an ignition surge wouldn't peak much past an additional amp or so. Well within safe limits for a plug socket.

i have used floods which can draw up to 5amps on ignition, 400w lamps, ok they were pretty heavy duty lights used for lighting on an opencast coal mine but you never know.

The easy way to work it out is P (power in watts)=I (current) multiplied by V (voltage). In this case 1200watts divided by 230volts equalling 5.2 Amps. Flu lamps have a surge like mentioned earlier (usually multiply by 1.8).
