    Default Clunking when accelerating

Hi, when accelerating or decelerating I'm getting a big clunking as if the engine mounts were gone but they're all fine, could it be the clutch / DMF going? Any ideas appreciated, Gaz.

Could it not be the exhaust catching something? are all the under shields in the right place?

Check the cv joint on the intermadiate driveshaft on the drivers side, I had a clunk everytime I accelerated or decelerated, I'd already checked engine mounts, radiator mounts and exhaust, but nothing wrong there the noticed the gaiter had split and had clarty grese everywhere when having tyres changed, fitted a new gaiter and packed up with new grease, clunking gone immediately, I only noticed it had stopped because it was so quiet, I didn't think that it could be the reason, but obviously, it was.

No, they're the rubber gaiters that protect the steering rack ends, if you jack up the car and take the wheel off, in the centre of the wheel hub there is a big nut, thats connected to the driveshaft, if you look behind the hub, it runs from the middle of the wheel hub to the Intermediate shaft on the drivers side, or to the gearbox on the passenger side, the cv joints are what couple the driveshaft to the gearbox and hub, they've got a rubber bellow on them that looks similar to the ones on the steering rack.

CV gaitors look alright, can the exhaust really make it feel that bad and is worth getting poly ones? Cheers, Gaz.

The CV's felt alright, no play between the shaft and the wheel anyway, and all the gaitors looked ok, gear selection isn't great, there's this clonking, there's what sounds like dmf style knocking sometimes, the clutch doesn't feel brilliant when changing gear either lol. How much are you looking at for doing the dmf?
