battery light on along with spanner through car light

hi all.
ok yet another problem.yesterday the battery light came on along with
the spanner through the car light on the tacho.am right in thinking the alternators kaput ? guess i should be getting the battery and alty tested,just thought i ask to see if there may be another issue someone knows of. cheers in advance.

Had the same last Tuesday and it was the alternator.

as above my alt died a month ago, driving with no power is no fun lol...

had the battery tested and surprise surprise there's no charge going in.looks like a new alternator then

also when yours did the same did your revs rise? mines now
ticking over at 1k revs constantly.

yes revs do rise,get it done asap, you will lose power steering & all electrics very soon if not already...
my new alt was £300 all in for the cdti 16v

I had that with my alternator last week. Lost all power steering, it was like multiple engine failure.

It cost £468 including VAT as I also needed a new battery but they had to take out the drive shaft. I have a 1.9CDTi SRI 150 Estate 56 Reg.

why remove drive shaft?

The said it was becasue of where the alternator was, it was difficult to get at. They had it 3 days, £180 for the alt, £100 battery, £90 labour, £20 pulley and then VAT.
