Question Airbag light won't turn off

Hi everyone, hopefully I've got the right section, I recently replaced my MAF on my 1.9 cdti Vectra, I tried a second hand one from a breakers yard, turns out it was off a different model.

Plugged it in, turned the ignition on and tried to fire it up, there was a 'pop' and then it wouldn't start. Turned out one of the fuses near the passenger door pillar had blown.

I changed the fuse and the car fired up fine, only thing is that the airbag light was now on. Took it to the local garage, a non-vaux one, he plugged it in and there were 2 codes, one related to there being an interruption in the power supply, which he cleared, the other was a P0650 code, apparently a MIL malfunction.

I've been advised that the instrument cluster can be refurbed or I could get a new or second hand set.

Does anyone know what the pitfalls of a second hand set of clocks are? Any dos or donts, things to look out for?

    Thanks for any help, Vince.

Whooo there!!!.Don't go throwing money at anyone until you know for certain what the problem is.First thing you do is disconnect your battery for a couple of hours and see if that clears it.In most cases it will.If it doesn't THEN get it coded properly, with a definate diagnosis, and take it from there. Some mechanics are all to happy to say anything to get their hands on your dosh!! FELIXX.

dont think you can clear airbag light that way , you will need something to read the code to understand if its present or not , if you find a guy on here called plasma he may be able to give you some direction of what to do ,

Thanks for that, I disconnected the battery overnight but it was still showing the light and saying 'airbag' in the display. The guy who plugged it in managed to cleat the first code, the interrupted supply, think that's what it was anyway, but the other one kept coming back, the P0650 one!

The machine he used was made by Snap-on and he reckoned it had set him back about £5k, and £750 a year for updates, not sure the exact model, though.

I'm thinking this could get painful in the wallet

Opcom or tech 2 will def clear an airbag light as along as there is no present fault. There is a thread called "tech help near you" or summat like that. See if anyone local to you will try resetting it for you?

From what the guy at the garage said there seems to be a fault present, even though he cleared it, it came straight back.
