Default GSI creamy sludge in filler neck - normal?

    Hi,

I've got an 04 plate GSI, last year (last time I checked oil) it had a creamy sludge in filler neck, I wiped it clean.....I've just checked oil again and it's back.....is this normal.....my temp gauge always reads just above the 1/4 and never goes beyond 1/2 even when in traffic so doesn't get hot. I also never really 'boot' it if this has anything to do with it? Any advise or am I worrying over nothing (my mate has a GSi and that's the same also?)?

    Cheers
    Carl

I think you'll find this is common on the GSI and nothing to worry about. Does yours still have the long filler neck, if so they get a build up of condensation mixed with other stuff which causes the cream. You can take the long neck off and put the cap directly on to the block.

It's condensation in the filler neck! You can remove the plastic tube that fits like the oil cap on the cam covers and just put the oil cap in it's place! There has been a few threads on this before so have a wee search if you don't understand what I mean! Mine did this when I got it and removed the plastic neck and never seen it again!!

Loads of posts about this. Remove the filler extension and see how you get on.

I take it yours is not using water though?

Yes it is normal for the 3.2V6. I take it that you have not removed the filler neck from the "top" of the engine and put the filler cap back in it,s place instead. A lot of us 3.2 v6 owners do this, then you will not have the emulsified oil collect there any more. Do a search for more information.

I have the same problem on my TT,

its due to the long neck, and the short distant driving causing condensation and various other stuff forming at the top of the cap. this is because the engine is not getting to its optimum tempreture.

Id say nothing to worry about, Give it a good clean and monitor it.
