Default Steering wheel buttons to operate cd player.

Basically my dad must have mentioned my new car to his work buddies and then somehow got on to the steering wheel buttons not operating my cd player. . . So a former vectra c owner brought this in as he's under the impression it will be what i need to connect up to my cd player to get the buttons on the steering wheel to work? lol So i gave it ago earlier this morning but with no joy - now i'm not that electrically minded so i just plugged in and hoped for the best I have probably missed something or wired it up incorrectly lol or maybe it just isn't what this bloke though it was or maybe it won't work with my cd player. . .

    I've been given this,

Now everything apart from the jack basically plugged right in, but i don't have anywhere for the jack to go on the back of my head unit

So thought it might be something i plug into on the vec wiring? Couldn't see anything though. . .

So just wondering if anybody knows whether this is what i need to get the steering wheel buttons to operate the cd player?

If so where does the jack go?

And if it is meant to go into the back of the head unit, then my head unit is wrong or not capable of steering wheel controls?

If the cd player is fine and the wiring is fine then a heads up as to what goes where would be useful, cause i may well have missed something

    Thanks, Ben

Doesn't look like your head unit supports steering wheel controls then. That jack normally plugs into a special socket on the head unit. Note you also need the right adaptor for the right head unit, you cant just plug in any old adaptor to any old head unit. What model is your head unit?

    I've got this Sony CDX-GT410

So take it my head unit is a jack socket short of this all being operable then?

Simple answer, no that unit is not compatible with steering wheel controls.
