Default Morning starts are ok - Afternoon starts are a ******!

Hi - I have had trouble in starting my car in the mornings and did a check on the glow plugs - 1 was faulty so changed the lot, however, when i took a couple of them out it was plain to see that the thread was totally wrecked.

I managed to get them in (to a fashion) but still had problems (turned out to be a faulty coolant temp switch - now replaced). Now the car starts fine in the morning but in the afternoon it has trouble starting (glow light is not coming on)...

Any ideas what to change next? Battery? Glow plug relay? Injector seals?

Pending codes could be stored but wont put the light on.

If people knew where you were maybe someone local could read the codes.

Which engine pal,if it's a 2.0dti mine is the same, fine in the mornings but just recently it takes a couple of turns of the key to crank her up late afternoon,iv'e put it down to outside temps..eg not cold enough to trigger GPs ,but on the other hand not quite warm enough to for the car to start(between 10 to 12 degrees) temperamental i'd say.

Yeah tis a 2.0 dti but don't believe it's temperamental... Missus has a diesel works fine, bruv has, got 2 more fixes (glow plug relay, injector seals) then fire !!!

Have a read of mine and Bigmac's threads that I've liked below about this - they might give you some ideas of some things to look to do.

I am assuming that your car starts OK if it's been run fairly recently or if it is cold enough to preheat - i.e. it's starting when 'warm' that is causing you problems.

Well unlikely to be the Glow plug relay then,as your saying that it starts ok in the mornings, which is the most likely time you will see the light, alltough having said that my light has not come on the past few mornings,as the temps been around 6c.
Also in the afternoon the glows are not needed(too warm).
Woud'nt have thought it was the battery as you say that it starts just fine in the morn.

I would start with the leak off pipes, change em and see what happens, not a difficult job to do.

Cheers guys... Not convinced its leak off or seals at it starts ok in morning when it's been sat the longest

Hey Bigmac (if ur about) - I've read your posts and it seems like u have changed everything, I read ur last posts andit seems a starter & battery did the trick... That right ??

I have changed plugs n sensor (for a 3rd party one) so first step is a new vx coolant temp sensor...
