Might have just been a gremlin. Do you have an electrical multimeter to test the battery and alternator? Engine off battery should be around 12.5v, engine running around 14.4v.

Steering feel ok? Usually the next sign of a failing alternator is the power steering going.

As said, could be the alternator. Mine went on my 07 CDTI 150 last Tuesday. Battery Light on solid, and eml light. Battery charged at 11.5V when driving. Got it to the dealers just in time. Replaced under Network Q.

Did you measure the voltage when the Battery Light was on?
-Could be that the alternator is about to fail, but does work for on and off.....

Easy check when you are out driving, enable the "Secret Menu"-mode in your board-computer (Hold down the Settingsbutton for 10 sec while radio is on, browse with BC-button afterwards) and you can see the battery/charge-voltage while driving.
