    Default Clanking noise

    Hi All,

When the car gets revved in neutral and revs are brought to 1500rpm then let off and fall back down as they pass back through 1000 to 900 revs there is a clanking noise from the passenger side of the engine. When the clutch is to the floor and the same thing is done there is no noise

Though it might be the dmf but im not too worried as the car pulls away in 1st and second with no use of the accelerator.

its a job ill get done at a later stage.

just wondering peoples opions. i did get a seal done on that side of the gear box recently and the drive was put back correctly so its hardly that is it?

    thanks again
    Dave

It's definitely the dual mass flywheel that is worn and thus making the noise. You've mentioned that the car moves in 1st without using the accelerator - that's an indicator of the clutch's health, not the DMF.

if it sounds like this, then it's the DMF.

cheers chaps, two mechanics who i have spoken too were saying to leave it as it only does it intermittently. wait till it stays rattling not just at a particular rev point but then again lots of advice from all over the place!

thanks again, and this site rocks...bought the haynes book and after looking at how easier this site's how-to on changing glow plugs i feel much better doing the work myself!!
