    Default Overboosting and smelling

Hey peeps I have a 57 vectra cdti Sri 150 auto. Sometimes when I flick the auto box over to change it too manual It sometimes goes into a funny mode. It drives a lot faster like it's getting loads more boost. On tick over it runs a little lumpy and u normally get a smell like u have been thrashing it. Doesn't happen all the time. Any ideas thanks

Possibly DPF regeneration. That can cause it to run a bit lumpy and the diesel is heating the DPF up a hell of a lot which it should. Next time it does it and on idle, switch to the trip computer so you can see the instant MPG or G/h. Normal idle will be about 0.1, if it's regenerating it'll be considerably higher. If the engine was overboosting it would go into limp home mode (reduced power).

Thanks for the advice and excuse me for being a bit numb but what's the dpf is it something to do with the particle filter. I have noticed when it does it that the mpg goes well well down and it's a bit mad the car feels so much quicker. Thanks

Yup it's the particulate filter. Once it's clogged up it regenerates by changing the time the diesel is injected into the engine so it burns off in the exhaust instead. Cleans itself this way. Once it's complete (normally takes about 20 minutes but depends on if the car is just sitting or being driven) the fuel consumption will return to normal.
