    Default CDTI 150 Thermostat

Decided to change my thermostat today due to my temperature gauge struggling to get over 70, with the heaters on would drop to the bottom of the gauge!
Before changing it i decided to fit the new temp sender from the new housing into the old housing still on the car, my heaters have always warmed up quickly and get red hot and my car has always been great on fuel, didnt even notice a massive difference during the colder weather we have had.
Anyway i took the car for a half hour run with heaters on number 2, to my surprise the temp gauge hit 85 and didnt move!
I decided to fit the new stat anyway and on checking the old one once removed, the stat was closed as it should have been!
    Baffled!

The bit i dont get is that changing the temp sender unit shouldnt have made any difference if the stat was knackered or lazy but it did!

Sounds like your temp sender unit was faulty and thus giving you dodgy readings.

I changed the stat on my 2.2DTI before xmas, and although the cab does heat up quicker than before the needle only moves when I turn the heating down (it hardly used to before). So I'm next going to change the temp sensor just to see if it changes how the needle reacts. Let you know my outcome.

To change the stat took me around 40mins, its a little awkward but you will be fine if you take your time. I didnt remove the glow plug relay which has been advised, i didnt have any issues getting the stat off with the relay in place..

well mine had all the symptoms that everyone else was having, i wasnt convinced it was the stat, hence changing the temp sender first, my car stayed at 80 - 85 with the heaters on without the new stat. My old stat was closed when i checked it which is correct..

Don't look at it in a waste of money but the stat for the CDTI 150 was upgraded to make it more reliable.
