95% disagree - The odd car has ok speakers in it but a majority are pants. We had Kenwood & Alpine down for a day of training and they told us that most manufacturers only allow £1 per speaker! Thats why Kenny etc will not make them as they dont want there name brought down for the sake of a few ex6tra ££'s in there pocket. They said even the higher end models - Jags / Range rover etc only allow about £5.

However a mate has a bmw which i persuaded him to upgrade head unit & speakers. We did the head unit 1st and OMG the sound is amazing so much he blew out the speaker idea

I had Kicker components in the front of my pug, Total diference in sound quality. You can have a top notch install without rear speakers, they just reinforce the sound and can also ruin the sound stage if not set up right! Best leave the rears till last mate. A good set of components (not forgetting good wire), Dynomat and if you wish a small sub in the boot cubby will do you fine mate. Get yourself down to unicar on kirkstall rd mate have a look around in there. Got loads of top stuff and they have far greater knowledge than halfords and the like.

@ Maddog, I'll accept that, it was back in 89 I had that car so maybe now things are different in the quality stakes, just my own experience at the time bud.

@ Harry, gwon rub it in about my elder status, you'll be there one day yourself ya cheeky whippersnapper and you have just given me an idea for a new smiley icon now, how about a little old man waving his cane in the air

Trueprint incase you have never heard of them were one of those photo companies who you sent the film in to by post and for about half what it cost in a shop they were supposed to develop your film and sent your pics back, obviously the trick was to run a batch of patsy pics up and dump the customers film saving on darkroom time and then not answer the phone

well i've just upgraded the h/unit and the factory speakers see alot better than they did before - obvious i know, but that can handle an impressive amount of bass without any distortion whilst keeping very clear on the top end! i'm impressed...i'll keep unitl they die then swap 'em.

you won't regret it VV - i haven't...fair enough it spoils that clean look a bit but the end result regarding sound quality and the ability to play any format on cd/dvd is a huge bonus!
