Default Interior lighting idea - need to drop the headlining

    Hi guys.

Right I have some white LEDs, holders and bullet connectors here I never used from a previous mod idea I never got round to doing. My idea was to use them for some dim ambient lighting inside the car - wired to be on all the time. If I remember right they're 3mm or 5mm - smaller than the nail on your little finger. I was going to use 6 of them, 3 down either side. One above each grab handle (or maybe to the rear side of them? Not sure) and one above the pillar in the middle between the two doors.

What do we think about this as a collective? Think it'll give the inside a gentle glow? I might knock it down to 4 LEDs if you guys think it'll be too bright.

I have been thinking of something like this but was going to use led bars inside the grab handles and 2 or 3 single leds in between grab handles

no need to drop the lining, wouldnt be keen on any light on all the time, but you could use the rear cig lighter contacts as a ignition live and feed speaker wire under carpet and up pillars.

I have done, that's what inspired me to see what you guys thought of this. I like what he has done with the strips.

I thought about it but with having them on all the time as like an ambient light, I thought it would be too bright hence sticking with single LEDs.

Cheers, hadn't thought of getting power from there. How easy is it to fish the wires under the carpet though? I wasn't sure if there was a constant live in the roof.

i was going to take the power from the rear interior light socket so they will only come on when the doors where open etc. i did think about constant mood lighting but thought against it although your idea combined with mine would be rather good, mood lighting with extra lighting when doors open etc.

This is true, roof would need to be dropped a bit anyway, thinking about maybe fitting the rear interior light and taking a feed from that - got to have constant power to it at some point in the circuit. Or if not that, 3 LEDs per grab handle still with one in the middle of the car. Middle of the car one on all the time, same as the middle one on the grab handles, open the doors and the other two per handle come on, so three would be lit.

We are! Pity you're so far away, could have got the bits together to have a go at this. Sure we could have worked it out between us!
