Cool How to save a small fortune.....

My vec was due its first service this week, but I just couldn't bring myself to take it to any of the few local stealers, partly because I begrudge paying Vx prices, but mostly because I just don't trust them!

So, I rang the local garage where I've had cars serviced for years, and asked if they would do a warranty service.
"No problem," said the nice chap, "bring it down and we'll sort it out."

Went to collect it at the end of the day and the guy looks at me kind of funny.
"Did you realise," he asked me, "that to get the required oil cost £35 at trade price, and the Vx oil filter was another £6.50?"
"Owch" says I, "Glad I didn't take it to Vauxhall!"

Not as glad as I was when he presented me with the invoice for a staggering £49!!!!

He asked me to remind him next time that the parts almost cost more than he charged for the service!

A Vectra VXR oil filter is £30, plus you can't buy the sump rubber ring on it's own .. Think that is £12, + 6L of mobil one at ....

    Well you got a bargain

Bummer. Just got in from dropping my 1.9 CDTi 150 off at the dealers for its first service. I was told it would cost me £165 inc VAT. I could have got a reputable service guy to do it for me if I had known it would not invalidate the waranty. Oh well live and learn as they say, although that is a big hit for my wallet.

VX labour rates are incredible! I enquired about getting the CC clutch switch sorted. £5 for the switch, £45 for the half hour labour! I laughed and said I may be back for the switch soon Even the rep behind the counter was laughing when he came back from talking to the parts bloke.

If there is an Arnold Clark Vauxhall near, you should try them. They do "fixed price" servicing. My 20K service for my 2.2 Sri was £99.I think the 40K is £199.

How much?!!!!!!! What are they doing to it Harry?, replacing major compenents! That's excessive, even for a major service - or is the 3.0CDTi more expensive to service than the others?

APPARENTLY....the major service on the 3.0 diesel is the most expensive service they do...but that could just be a line they're feeding me!

i don't see why/how it can be though!

Yes, it was only the interim service, but next year the full service will only come to about £120 plus any parts!

And apparently, as long as genuine Vx parts are used, any garage can service the car under warranty.....

I did the same for my Astra 2.2. £300+ then the MOT on top. £150 all in at my local trustworthy independant. I asked if they were okay for the warranty, in reply he showed me his computer with all the technical updates on it direct from Vaux, including field remedies etc. My cars are going there from now on. Plus they do good old fashoined preventitive stuff like stripping down the brakes, good clean and copper grease back up - you dont get that at a vaux stealer.
