    Exclamation Power Steering Pump/CIM... Help

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping someone can help me.

    I have a black 2005 3.0 v6 SRI cdti.

Around Christmas time my powersteering pump stopped working. A friend of mine is a mechanic and replaced it with a 2nd power steering pump from the salvage yard.

Power steering working again so all good, however there is a light in the dash - steering wheel with exclamation mark (!) in it.

Have driven it for about 2 months now with the light on and although the cars fine the lights driving me crazy.

Today I took it to VX, but I didnt mention that there is a 2nd pump in it as i just wanted them to fix the error light in the dash.

They ran the diagnostics and rang me to say that it needed either a new CIM (£240) or a power steering pump (£700).

My mechanic friend knows a TECH2 guy who does homers so i can get the hold of him if need be.

Is it possible the 2nd hand power steering pump needs reset or the cim reset?

    What should i do?

I have to pick up the car from VX tomorrow and advise them on how i want to proceed. should i tell them that there is a 2nd hand pump in it? if so can they link it to my car and solve the problem?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks
    Ryano

Might souind simple, but is the fluid topped up to the MAX marker? I had the warning on mine a few months ago, it drove perfect, but the fluid was at the MIN line. Topped up and all was, and still is, fine
