Default Sat Nav Holder Invites Criminals ?

lol, I got a letter today from the local "Crime Prevention" thingamie wotsit, a partnership between my local council and the police.. Addressed to me, with my cars details, and stating date and time it was seen parked up with the Sat Nav holder in the screen... Letter warns me its not good to leave it in the screen as it could invite criminals.. Ive never thought about it before, obviously I unclip my sat nav when I go in, but Ive never been bothered with unsucking the holder from the screen too.. Its got me thinking though, maybe I should.. The letter went on to explain that the Holder could lead criminals to think the Satnav is stored in the glove compartment... So yea, think it might be an idea to get an easier to remove sat nav mount instead of my awkward to remove&refit sucky to screen one..

Yep, i have heard this before. Not only is the holder in position a dead giveaway and could lead to a break in, the other very noticable giveaway is the round mark left on the windscreen when you remove it!

But, saying that i would go as far as saying that 80% if not more have a satnav of some sort, so if someone wants a satnav, its quite easy pickings.

Try installing a brodit mount near your air vents or by the radio unit. You can only see it if you actually take the effort to look into the car and not just glance at the windscreen as you go past. I have them for my iPhone and TomTom... the holder just looks like it could be a mobile phone holder to general thieving public!

    Try these websites...

Ive had two of my taxi's broken into due to sat nav mounts and computer module mounts being on show. Thieving scumbags thinking the sat navs and computers are left in the glove box..Ive just bought a vectra c with an incar phone mount bolted on the dashboard, (Bury base unit) and not sure if that will be an open invitation....Tosh

I always clean the bit of screen where the sucker goes, again a dead giveaway.

When I use to use my portable unit I always wiped the screen after.

Luckily I've never had any issues along these lines, I'm forever telling my ****** wife to do the same but it falls on deaf ears. Shame as she has been broken into 3 times wonder why!!

i use a round base that sits on the dash called 'nav-mat'. no telltale marks and it only moves if you're really slinging the car around corners.

On the subject of sat nav...I have 2006 1.9 cdti and have the built in one... would be very difficult for a thief to remove so think vauxhall has solved that problem.. Also like to add as it is linked with in car computer ...I set a destination and on my way a message popped up telling me that i did not have enough fuel to complete the journey so then it directed me to nearest fuel station.... have to say great technology

As the others say, I always remove the holder and nav unit, though I hadn't bothered cleaning the ring marks if I was only parking up for an hour before needing it again, I might do that as well!
