Default 1.9 cdti 120 Thermostat Mod

My cars suffering from the failed thermostat ie stuck open and looking at the work involved to replace it I'm thinking about just cutting the thermostat to radiator hose and fitting an in line housing/thermostat unit. Wonder if anyone as already tried it and what results they have, or parts used.

Not heard of anyone fitting a thermostat to radiator hose but cant see why it wont work. The only problem I can think of it being in a different position and not directly in contact with engine is it might take longer to heat up and open then cause engine to overheat... I might be wrong but just a thought.

Thought about the temp difference being in the hose so plan to mount it as close to the original thermostat as I can and start off with one that opens at 82 degrees. Need to find a housing suitable or see if I can make one.

Jobs not that bad 2and half hours at the most on a 120.
There are many pipes coming off the thermostat housing that need heating up before the thermostat opens.
