Default Considering a move to a 1.8 VVTi

I have had my CDTI 120 for just over 12 months and to be fair she has been a great car, but as i changed jobs early last year my daily commute is now only about 5 miles each way. As we know diesels don't like short runs, particularly those with DPF's, so i am considering a 1.8 VVTi and would like to know if current owners would recommend this engine or not.

I do a daily commute of about 70 miles a day, these engines are fine on long or short journeys but the vectra was built for the motorways,

it's not a car i would buy if i was pottering around town all day

Well happy with mine. Wanted something with good mpg, big size and not slow , and a bit sporty looking, for me the 1.8vvti Sri ticks all those boxes. I mostly do 15min runs giving me 32-34 mpg Motorway gets me 38mpg upwards.
Moding only started after seeing Ians (Soulmans) old Vec and the Billing meet.
After having a few diesels I got feed up with the noise and the 7000-9000 I do a year made it a bit daft.

    Just changed from a 05 150 to a 58 1.8.

My 150 ate cash like mad costing me more than any savings I was making on diesel!

Only done the drive to work but have noticed the following

Will cover a lot less milage to the tank than the diesel ..... but doing half what I was before so won't notice much.

Lacks the grunt and pulling power of the 150 ..... Overtaking needs to be planned and you don't get pushed into the seat.

However the ride seems a lot quieter and smoother with the car not sounding like a bag of nails.

The car done 70000 less miles than the 150 but so nice to drive, tighter no knocks and don't keep watching for the next thing to go wrong .....

Gone from pre to facelift as well so a little smarter inside.

No mods planned ..... Though may fit a CD70 if can find one cheap.

Wow. And im considering going to a petrol SRI next also!

Whats happening to us all? Price of Diesel. Inlet Manifolds, EGRs etc. The diesel used to be renowned for being the more reliable cover over the lifetime than petrols.

Happy with mine, there is enough power and grunt after 3000rpm does pull fairly well, as said over taking does need a little more planning. And most of all seems alot more reliable than most.
