confused keep loosing all dials and spanner comes on (seems to be a common fault)

Have started loosing all the dials on the dash. Revs, Speedo, Temp, Fuel. Spanner comes on and the traction control light. It started with them dropping for a second or two, then going back to normal. But the TC light would stay on. Went out tonight and this happened again. Only this time the steering wheel with the exclamation mark also came on with the spanner. Also the battery light. Had a new alternator fitted last month, seemed to have started a few days after. This is an intermittent fault and seems to be worse if the weather is cold. Ive got an 2003 2.2 petrol not the direct. My work mate has got an 3.2 gsi on a 52 plate. He has got the same problem with his. Anybody got any ideas before i hand over my wallet to the stealers.

I know you said it's a new alt... but it has been known to be a faulty new part.

Two common causes, 1) CIM module in the steering column, 2)dirty contacts on the ABS multiplug/ABS plug not secure.

Theres loads of info on here about them both, just have a search and you'll find lots of people have had these problems.

gave the abs plug a bit of a whack the other night. made a difference straight away, so have given the abs plug a good clean and a spray with electrical connector. put it back together and the car is all good again. happy days.

"gave the abs plug a bit of a whack the other night" I generally use this method. Glad you're sorted mate. This forum is so helpful.
