    Default Custom Exhausts

    Hi All,

I am thinking on fitting stainless steel custom exhausts once the VXR body kit is fitted next week....

The guy reckons he will cut the old system off from the back of the Catalist and then fit a custom stainless steel twin exhaust system through to the tailpipes.

He reckons that by not fitting back boxes, it will emit a nice 'sporty' tone without booming or blaring down the road.

Now, it has been suggested by a friend that I would need to consider three things.

    1) Exhaust Warrantee (which I beleive is for 1 year from Vauxhall) and the car is 1 year old next month - so I'm not worried about this.
    2) Insurance - not a problem
    3) Back Pressure Sensitivity

This back pressure sensitivity has caused me to speak with the specialist who explained that if the engine was naturally aspirated then it would be a problem, but, because I have a turbo then back pressure will not be a problem. (any comments.......?)

These are the tailpipes (I've put a business card in front to give a sense of scale as they are much bigger than standard SRi ones.....)

Tailpipes will fit ok as they look like 5x3's to me.
As for not having rear boxes, i was only going to have the left side box replaced and a straight through pipe to the tail pipe on the right hand side. Looked silly as it looked odd but it might look ok with no box either side.
I had my centre box replaced by a straight pipe with a box either side at the back. I was told this should keep the back pressure as close to standard as possible.
All you can do is try it and see what it sounds (and goes) like

Thanks Micky.... 'cut' was my terminology.... but you know what he means...

Once the VXR kit is in place, he will 'present' them against the car and see what we think...

He offered them up to the car whilst it still has the standard SRi and it looked really good.... followed the natural line of the bumper as well which was nice....... but they are BIG in comparison.....

Yep, thats the one.... VXR rear valance and VXR middle bit thingy.....

The tailpipes that I will be getting look 'almost' identical to yours (what do you think) the profile seems the same....

I would be very cautious about the lack of back box's to be honest, I have my own thoughts on these custom exhausts, personally I think only exhausts designed to fit a specific model should be used.

But each to their own, but Spoons, your chosen tailpipes will look very good.

Just had a look at the MIJ site Spoons, looks very good, from what I have seen, if anyone is going to make a good custom system, it looks like they could.
