Signum 3.0 v6 CDTI auto low Tow weight

Now then,
I am looking to buy a 2007 signum elite 3.0 v6 CDTI auto which I thought would be fantastic for pulling my caravan. Unfortunatly I have just noticed that for some reason the Tow limit is only 1300kg for this engine yet 1700kg for the older engine. Even the 1.9 CDTI can pull more? Can anyone tell me why this is, It doesn't seem to make any sense? My Caravan weighs 1294kg with nothing in it which is pretty much the maximum, makes me wonder if it will tow well or not?

Iirc it's due to the autobox. Not sure if an external cooler would help? It could be due to the heat build up from the load.

You could always get a manual?

I tow my caravan with the manual version and its brilliant. With plenty of power and torque there is no need to "work" the gearbox.

Perhaps you can find a manual to test drive to see what you think, unless its an auto you specifically want.

1300 is really low,ive got a vec c 150bhp and mine tows up to 1500,i never knew the auto would of made any difference,i guess it just go's to show that you should always check the weights before you spend your money to find out after that it wont tow your caravan

Cheers Chaps, Big Sig I take it then that the Auto does not have an oil cooler. If thats the issue then I should be able to put one on without too many issues. Is it a new auto box that is the problem then, seems strange as the old one would pull 1700kg and the vectra with the same engine and box has a limit of 1500kg?
